In the immediate aftermath of the Taliban taking Kabul, Sue Turton's film follows terrified Afghans trying to escape abroad - as well as Taliban fighters and leaders.
It’s night-time in Kabul when Sue Turton's film starts, and the Taliban have taken back control, celebrating their victory with gun fire across the Afghan capital. Inside her hiding place Zoya Faizi, a female rights activist, tries to comfort her children, who are terrified about what may come next. The film, made with the help of Afghan journalists, documents her journey of escape, profiles Taliban fighters, and follows one of the most powerful and controversial figures in the new regime, Anis Haqqani, as he returns to Bagram prison where he was imprisoned for five years. Filmed with the help of Afghan journalists, Sue Turton’s film was critically praised, described by the Times as “powerful and often harrowing"
